The Village Show

Newcomer to the village Craddock Fitch is keen to make a splash by holding a village show - the best ever - in the grounds of his large house. Committee secretary and co-ordinator of the show Louise Bissett is the spoilt daughter of Sir Ron and Lady Sheila. Although a brilliant organiser, Louise is in deep personal trouble - and her growing obsession with Peter Harris, the married rector, can only end in tears. As the weeks roll by into summer and nerves tighten in anticipation of the great day, romances heat up and then cool down, tempers flare and misunderstandings multiply ... all relayed daily in the gossipy atmosphere of Jimbo Charter Plackett's village store.

Trouble in the Village

When the people of Turnham Malpas realise that all is not as it should be between Peter, the rector, and his wife Caroline, the smooth running of the village falters. Then the appointment of a new verger causes trouble when events from his past return to haunt him, bringing violence and danger to the peace of the village. And there are the strange goings-on in the church at night, one of the villagers' houses is ransacked; a couple is beaten up... But troubles in Turnham Malpas are put to rest as Bonfire Night at the Big House arrives and the celebrations unite the village once again.

Country Lovers

The lively Barley bridge Veterinary Hospital is bustling with energy. Everyone is working hard to make sure that sick animals in the surgery and on the farms are treated. But at the same time, some of the staff are coping with crises in their personal lives.  Kate is worrying about her exam results and hoping she can get into veterinary college. Dan's wife's baby is due any moment. Letty is worried that she may be terminally ill but is afraid to tell anyone. Joy finds that she is still in love with Mungo, a fact that finally compels her husband Duncan to leave home. Rhodri is deeply in love with Megan, a local farmer's daughter, but she can't marry him because she is committed to caring for her elderly father.  A wonderfully pacy, funny but tender novel about life in the country.

Country Wives

There's trouble afoot in Barleybridge. The vets' practice, which normally runs so smoothly, is disrupted by the new locum, Dan, who seems to be annoying just about everyone with his abrupt manner and unreasonable demands. And when he succeeds in losing an important client through his arrogant attitude, the wives connected to the practice are determined that something has to be done. But Kate, who works at the practice, finds she rather likes Dan's no-nonsense approach, despite what everyone thinks of him. Then, when she is suddenly confronted by a devastating tragedy at home, it is Dan, with a sad secret of his own, who helps her come to terms with her new situation...

A Village Feud

With the Rector Peter Harris and his family back from Africa, the villagers of Turnham Malpas heave huge sighs of relief - everything seems to be back to normal. But Peter has other ideas, and decides to return to Africa to fulfil his promise of working there for a year, leaving his family behind. The villagers are also missing Peter's guidance, especially when the store is the target of petty theft and violence. Everyone is relying on Peter's return to help restore harmony. But will he make it back before things get out of hand?

The Village Green Affairs

The stranger stretched his long legs out in front of him, locking his ankles together, and observed the ancient village waking up... Yes, this was the place, he thought. A mysterious visitor arrives in Turnham Malpas, snooping around while keeping his cards close to his chest. Soon the village is buzzing with rumour and outrage: is Titus Bellamy planning to hold a market on the picturesque green Meanwhile the Neal's marriage is on a rocky ground - according to unhappy Liz. But blissfully unaware, Neville is planning their silver wedding anniversary celebration. The party and the market mark both the beginning and end of two relationships. But who is really to blame...?

A Village Dilemma

An unwelcome visitor arrives in Turnham Malpas. Why is Bryn Fields - who fled four years ago under the worst possible circumstances - back? And what are his plans for the village? For the rector and his wife, Peter and Caroline, there are more serious problems to cope with when their twins start asking about their real mother. Having accepted her husband's indiscretion ten years ago, Caroline finds that facing up to it again now is almost more than she can bear...

Village Gossip

For the locals of Turnham Malpas the rural peace is disrupted when a famous actor comes to stay to recuperate from illness. Before long he is bored by village life and when he meets Caroline, the rector's wife, he is instantly attracted to her. He agrees to direct and star in a play with the villagers as his supporting cast and Caroline as his leading lady... Before long, the villagers' lives are turned upside down: a marriage is wrecked, a proud man humbled and two people are brought closer together as gossip, scandal and jealousy mount...

Talk of the Village

The village is bedevilled by talk and all is not as it seems in the village of Turnham Malpas ... Does pushy newcomer Venetia have her eye on Peter, the handsome rector? Is Jeremy, her husband, really making a success of the new health club? And why does Willie's new love set a vicious tongue wagging? In the Royal Oak, the usual banter has turned to bitter wrangling as the rector's wife Caroline makes a challenge over an ancient country tradition and splits the village her husband had so recently united. As the people of the village use the power of words to reconcile or divide, Peter finds it is what isn't talked about that threatens to cause madness, confusion and tragedy.

Whispers in the Village

When the rector, Peter, takes his family to Africa for a year so that he can work in a Mission, the villagers are bereft. They don't immediately take to the locum, Anna, who has rather modern ideas - but she does fill the church with parishioners determined to keep an eye on her. Then she brings a down-and-out petty thief into their midst causing conflict within the community. Peter keeps in touch regularly by email, and the Women's Institute comes up with the idea of raising funds for his Mission. There's an upmarket pyjama party, midnight skinny dipping and an afternoon's horse racing, with more money than they dreamed of riding on a horse called Major Malpas. Then a message arrives from Peter with the most devastating news - and the villagers are more determined than ever to raise a substantial sum for Peter's Mission.

A Country Affair

Kate arrives at Barleybridge Veterinary Practice on her first day as the new receptionist. The hills rise almost immediately from the edge of the car park, dotted all over the slopes are sheep grazing. Turning round she can see the town which has now crept up the foothills making the Practice the last bit of civilisation before the hills. The setting is idyllic. Kate quickly gets to know the other staff and becomes engrossed in the work and drawn into the lives of her colleagues and those of the animals and their owners. But as she gets more and more involved with the Practice, Kate realises she has a very difficult decision to make...

Customer Reviews

I really enjoyed this book. I did not realize how involved with human rights issues and how often he gave serious, versus comedic, speeches with love between them and is Quite motivational.
